Terms and conditions

Short version: access is by invitation, and getting started needs no payment method. Nothing is charged without 30 days' notice by email, and if you do nothing you stay on the free plan. Your design tokens never reach Syntope infrastructure.

01 · TL;DR

  • Getting started needs no payment method, and there is a free plan.
  • Access to the plugin goes out by invitation, requested through a short survey.
  • Nothing is charged without at least 30 days' notice by email, naming the amount and the date it applies from. If you do nothing, you stay on the free plan.
  • Your design tokens never reach Syntope infrastructure. They live in your Figma file and in the repository you connect.

02 · Who you contract with

These terms govern the relationship between you and the operator of Syntope Tokens:

Syntope Software UG (haftungsbeschränkt) i.G.
Stolberger Str. 90A
50933 Köln · Germany

Represented by the managing directors Benjamin Zschoche · Dario Iannone · Anna Drewes. Referred to below as “Syntope” or “we”. The same details, in their statutory form, are on the imprint.

03 · What these terms cover

These terms apply to three things Syntope provides:

  • the Syntope Tokens Figma plugin,
  • the documentation at docs.syntope.eu,
  • and this website at syntope.eu.

The plugin runs inside Figma, so your use of Figma itself is governed by Figma's terms. A sync provider you connect, such as GitHub or GitLab, is governed by that provider's terms. These terms cover only what Syntope provides.

How personal data is handled is not part of these terms. It is set out in the privacy notice.

These terms apply to consumers and businesses alike. Where a provision applies only to consumers (§ 13 BGB) or only to businesses (§ 14 BGB), it says so.

04 · Access and features

Access to the plugin goes out by invitation; it is not installed from the Figma Community. To ask for it, answer the short survey about your token setup. It ends with your email address, and the invitation is sent to the address given there.

Syntope may change or remove features of the free plan where there is a valid reason, such as further development of the plugin, security, legal requirements or changes to the Figma API. Significant changes are announced by email in advance. For paid plans, the conditions agreed at booking apply.

05 · The plugin and its licence

The source code of the plugin is licensed under the Apache-2.0 licence. The source repository is private; the licence applies to the plugin as distributed.

The licence covers the code of the plugin. It does not cover the separate backend service that the paid features run on, which is not part of the plugin source, and it grants no right to use the Syntope name or logo (section 6 of the licence).

These terms govern what Syntope provides as a service: access to the plugin, the documentation, and the backend the paid features run on. They do not restrict any right the licence grants. For the code of the plugin as such, the licence's own provisions on warranty and liability (sections 7 and 8) apply, to the extent German law permits; for the services, § 09 applies.

06 · Pricing and billing

The plans are Free, Solo and Enterprise. What each includes and what it costs is published on the pricing page. Getting started needs no payment method, so nothing starts charging by accident.

The prices on the pricing page are not an offer in the legal sense. A paid plan is concluded only when you book it, at the price and under the conditions shown at booking, including the payment provider, the billing period, renewal and cancellation. Before paid plans can be booked, these terms are extended to cover them, as set out in § 13.

A paid plan starts only if you choose one. Nothing is charged without at least 30 days' notice by email, naming the amount and the date it applies from. If you do nothing, you stay on the free plan.

If you book a paid plan as a consumer, you have a statutory right of withdrawal. The withdrawal notice and the model withdrawal form are provided at booking.

07 · Your design tokens

The tokens you author with the plugin are stored on the Figma file itself and, once you connect a sync provider, in your own repository. They are never stored on Syntope infrastructure, and the plugin sends no copy of them to us. Sync credentials (the provider token and repository settings) stay in Figma's clientStorage on your machine. The privacy notice describes this in detail (§ 03 and § 07).

Because your tokens never reach us, we have no access to them. Stopping using the plugin, or ending a paid plan, removes features, not data: the tokens stay in your Figma file and in your repository.

08 · The documentation

The documentation at docs.syntope.eu is invite-only. You sign in with the email address you were invited with: a link that works once is emailed to you, and following it starts a session. There is no public sign-up and no password.

What is processed for that sign-in, and for how long, is set out in the privacy notice (§ 06).

09 · Liability

Syntope is liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), and where Syntope has given a guarantee.

For slight negligence, Syntope is liable only if it breaches an essential obligation: one whose fulfilment makes the proper performance of the contract possible in the first place, and on which you may regularly rely. Liability is then limited to the damage that is typical for the contract and foreseeable when it was concluded.

The free plan, the documentation and this website are provided free of charge. For them, Syntope is not liable for slight negligence at all, except for injury to life, body or health.

Beyond this, liability is excluded. The limitations above also apply to the personal liability of the managing directors, employees and agents of Syntope.

The free plan, the documentation and this website come without a commitment to availability. Your tokens live in your Figma file and your own repository, so backing them up is your responsibility; the version history of Figma and of your repository is the usual way to do it.

10 · Ending use

You can stop using the plugin at any time, and your tokens stay in your Figma file and your repository. On the free plan there is nothing to cancel.

Syntope can end your access to the free plan with at least 30 days' notice by email, or without notice for good cause (§ 314 BGB), for example misuse of the service, attacks on it, or use that breaks the law. A paid plan is cancelled under the conditions agreed at booking.

To have your documentation account deleted, write to contact@syntope.eu. Otherwise accounts are deleted as described in the privacy notice (§ 06).

11 · Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by German law, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country where you have your habitual residence.

If you are a merchant (Kaufmann), a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from these terms is Cologne (Köln).

Whether we take part in consumer dispute resolution proceedings is stated on the imprint (§ 04).

12 · Contact

Questions about these terms: contact@syntope.eu. Replies usually take about 24 hours on a weekday.

13 · Changes to these terms

A new version of these terms is announced by email to the address you were invited with, at least 30 days before it is meant to apply, together with what changed. It applies to you only once you accept it. If you do not, the version you agreed to stays in force, and Syntope can end your access to the free plan as set out in § 10.

With every new version, the version and effective date at the top are bumped. The current version is 1.2, effective 28.10.2026. Every version is listed below, so you can see which terms applied when:
